Panjshir Valley V is a simulation on the 5th battle for the valley conducted by the Soviet 108th Mechanized division (and others) that began May 16, 1982. In all of the previous battles to subdue this Mujahideen infested bastion, the Soviets either stalled in advancing or suffered losses beyond their expectations. They never were able to control the valley that stretches for 90 miles and has a narrow valley floor and 10,000 foot mountains astride the dirt road. This type of terrain seemed to nullify much of the Soviet raw military strength. |
